Introduction

Promova faced a classic scaling challenge: millions of users – and thousands of push notifications that needed to be written manually. This took significant time, and results were unpredictable. To test whether AI could outperform human copywriters, Promova partnered with Yespo for a new approach trial.

The results were striking: AI pushes generated using Yespo’s “One from Many” block not only saved the team’s resources but also showed significantly higher user engagement. Here’s how it worked.

About the Project

Promova is an international language learning platform used by approximately 17 million people worldwide. Its library contains over 400 English lessons plus 12 additional languages, including Spanish, French, and Chinese.

The platform operates on a subscription model: users can choose from several premium plans adapted to different learning goals. The product combines AI technology and linguistic expertise, offering short practical lessons, interactive tests, AI-powered speaking practice, and exercises built around real-life situations.

Promova’s mission is to help people maintain motivation during learning and see results faster. This goal drove their push notification strategy – messages were designed to sustain interest in lessons and encourage regular practice.

Challenge

Promova’s marketing team faced a challenge: maintaining personalized engagement with a million-strong audience at global scale. Previous experience had already demonstrated the power of automated reminders, but manually writing pushes took too much time and produced inconsistent results.

The key question was whether messages created by artificial intelligence based on data and optimized phrasing could outperform human-written messages in click-through rates (CTR) and conversions.

To test this hypothesis, they needed a scalable solution that would not only automatically create but also test and optimize push notifications in real time without disrupting existing communication workflows. That solution already existed in Yespo CDP.

Solution

Yespo experts used the “One from Many” block and configured a dynamic A/B test to compare the effectiveness of manual push notifications with AI-generated variants. Since all messages were part of a single workflow, there was no need to create separate branches or duplicate communication chains.

How the “One from Many” Block Works in Yespo

The system delivers the best-performing message from the variants provided. It first tests each one by sending it to a portion of subscribers, then considers the results and selects messages with higher CTR.

The system also factors in previous activity and recent messages sent to each contact when determining the best variant.

The “One from Many” block is a continuous A/B test that improves results with each send and ensures maximum CTR for the given messages.

How Built-in AI Creates Mobile Push in the “One from Many” Block

AI generates new message variants based on previous results or existing templates. If the workflow is already active, it analyzes which texts had better CTR or clicks and creates new ones incorporating these insights. If the workflow is launching for the first time, it takes several messages in the block as a foundation and suggests dozens of new variants. For multilingual campaigns, the system automatically generates translations.

Results: AI Generation Beats Manual Texts

The A/B test confirmed the hypothesis: AI-generated messages consistently outperformed manually written ones, significantly increasing user engagement.

The best performer was the AI push “First lesson unlocked!” – compared to the control group, it delivered higher click-through rates and conversion rates for the target in-app action (returning to lessons or opening a lesson):

The secret to its effectiveness lies in clear, motivating language, a specific call to action, and an obvious benefit to the user (such as the ability to take the first lesson immediately).

The AI approach proved more effective because the algorithm analyzes hundreds of behavioral signals – from reactions to previous messages to user activity times – and quickly identifies which phrasings are more engaging. Based on this data, it immediately creates even more precise variants, gradually increasing the effectiveness of new messages.

For comparison, the message “Your language journey begins!” sounded positive but didn’t explain a concrete benefit. This resulted in 58.8% lower CVR than the top variant.

Generic phrases like “Begin your language adventure!” showed the weakest results. The absence of a clear benefit or urgency resulted in a 33.7% CVR compared to the control group.

The experiment also highlighted the importance of continuous monitoring and optimization of AI prompts and data. Not all automatically created messages are equally effective, but thanks to real-time analytics, marketers can quickly identify the most successful ones and scale them.
